MCSB: Mathematical, Computational and Systems Biology at UC Irvine

The MCB Admissions Committee will be able to consider your application for Fall 2009 when all of the following items have been received. Please send only official copies and no photocopied documents.

	Application Fee: To encourage early application, we will refund $50 of your application fee if you meet the following criteria: (1) you are a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident; (2) you have at least a 3.0 grade point average from your current or latest institution; and (3) you submit a complete application package by January 5, 2009 (refund checks will be mailed by March 15, 2009). The university also grants full application fee waivers to certain U.S. citizens and permanent residents with strong financial need (For more information and instructions, go to: http://www.rgs.uci.edu/GRAD/prospective/fee_waivers.htm).

	Official Transcripts (two copies): Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended must be sent directly from the Registrar 's Office at your undergraduate institution to: (NOT to UCI's Office of Graduate Studies) UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE Mathematical and Computational Biology Program Attention: Ann Detsch, Program Administrator 4213 McGaugh Hall Irvine, California 92697-2300 Also include a Certificate of Graduation indicating your Bachelor Degree award.

	Three (3) Letters of Recommendation: Reference forms for use by the recommender are included in the online application. For the Academic Degree Program, indicate MCB.

	Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Test Scores: All applicants are required to submit an official GRE record, which can be obtained through the Educational Testing Service (ETS). For score reporting, the institution code for UCI is 4859; if you would like your scores to be directly reported to the MCB Program, under "Department Code" use the code for Interdisciplinary Programs, which is 5101.

	TOEFL/IELTS Scores: Only applicants whose primary language is not English are required to demonstrate proficiency in English for admission consideration. However, this requirement will be waived automatically for applicants who have received an advanced degree from an accredited U.S. college or university. Proficiency in English may be demonstrated by passing one of two standardized, internationally administered tests: TOEFL (the Test of English as a Foreign Language); or IELTS (International English Language Testing System). For score reporting, the institution code is 4859; for theDepartment Code, the MCB Program uses the code for Interdisciplinary Programs, which is 5101.
